Welcome back once again everyone! Thank you to everyone who recommended or even better left me a comment on the last chapter…. It means everything to me! We last left off with Rachel and her brother Kris, letting Oliver, who is being kept in the Police Station that she is fine and are now coming up with a plan to get him out of there…. Let’s continue!
“Where are we going Kris?”
“Do you trust me?” I nodded, I did trust my brother. “Don’t ask questions, but we can trust her…. Don’t worry.”
“Just stand behind this bush OK?”
“Where are we Kris?”
“At a friend’s… I’m just going to check she’s in…”
“Does she know about me?”
“Not yet… but I’m going to have to tell her...”
I kept hidden, but watched as he rang the doorbell…. It was a nice house…. But I didn’t know who lived here…. Kris didn’t have ‘female friends’ Tamsin wouldn’t allow it…. Who did he trust this much?
A young man walked out of the door with a friendly smile on his face… I recognised his hair and his eyes… but I couldn’t think from where…
“Lovely evening young Kris, are you here for my daughter again?”
“Yes please Mr. Cole, I just need a quick word with her…”
Cole? I recognised the name…. but my head was still fuzzy on small little things…
That’s when Megan Cole, our classmate, and the girl who has had a MAJOR crush on my brother stepped into the evening air…
“Hi Kris, may I talk with him father?”
“Of course you can, you’re my daughter and I put you first.”
“Thank you father and thank you for trusting me.”
“Don’t worry… I will distract your mother… she won’t know…. Why don’t you two come in for a while?
“No!” Megan announced to quickly, meaning Kris obviously told her something “I mean, we will be in shortly… but there may be someone else with us…”
He seemed to relax a little after being told someone else was coming and re-entered the house…
“I was worried when you didn’t call.”
“Sorry, I was helping someone very important to me.”
“Oh?” She sounded upset by his answer….. I wanted to scream JUST TELL HIM!
I was totally surprised when Kris turned around and held on to her arms….
“You misunderstand Megs… it’s my sister! She’ fine!”
“Really?” You could see the kindness and warmth in her face “I’m so glad for you!”
Kris then moved his arms down to her waist and she held his face so he looked straight into each other’s eyes…
“Yeah, but it’s not that simple, Megs….. I need you to do something for me…. For us…. I need you to take a risk.”
“I would do anything for you Kris.”
“I know you would, and I would only ask this if there was no other way… I need you to follow me… but keep quiet.”
She nodded and they began to head towards me.
As she turned the corner and looked at me I could tell she knew who I was….
“Hello Megan.” I said softly… hoping she wouldn’t explode on us…
“OMG, Rachel, I can’t believe your safe! Why are you hiding back here anyhow?”
It took me by surprise but she gave me a hug, just like a best friend would.
“Megs, listen we need to explain a lot to you… and were also going to need your help.”
After we explained everything, even the Darren and Diana bit (it was going to come out at some point) she held my hand and gave it a little squeeze followed by a hug, “You poor thing! Of course I will tell the police you were with me…. I was actually away in Paris for the weekend anyway… with a certain someone….” She looked knowingly at Kris, how long had they been together? “Of course, you two are staying here tonight!
I could tell from the moment I walked in that house that Megan was fearful of her mother… I knew the feeling… I hated Tamsin… the women who brought me up…
“Mother, father, I was wondering if my 2 friends can sleep over tonight so we can study for our big test tomorrow?”
I didn’t think people like Megan needed to study… her mother looked ready to say no when her father quickly got up and said “Of course they can stay, I’m glad our little Megan is finally making friends!”
That’s when her older sister Grace came down the stairs… everyone had heard of Grace…. Mrs Cole was so proud of her, with her looks, and brains! She had already graduated from some college I’ve never heard of, she looked straight at Megan and then Kris, and let out a smile.
“Hey Kris, nice to see you again! Looking hotter than last time, why don’t you dump that little girl and date a true woman?”
Was she really flirting with my brother, who was clearing in love with her sister? In front of her? What a horrid girl!
“Just give it up Grace, leave me alone!” I’m sure I heard him mutter ‘It’s Megan I fell in love with’
Then she turned her attention to me…. She just kept looking…. I knew she was a intelligent person…. Had she put the pieces of the puzzle together? Suddenly Megan’s hand was around my arm, pulling me up the stairs…
As soon as we were out of ear shot she muttered ‘I hate that girl’ I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her…
“I feel really bad for you… having to watch her do that.” Was all I could manage to say….
She let out a long breath and sighed… “Well, thanks. Not that it can do much good anyway, as soon as I can I’m leaving here… your room is through there” she pointed towards an old door.
The first part of the plan, to change my appearance back to how it was.
I thought I would be glad to wear the clothes my brother had somehow brought with him, but it made me sad. I guess it reminded me how sweet and caring Taylor had been through all of this.
“Megan, thanks for everything you are going to do for me, it really means a lot.” She quietly nodded but looked away distantly… “You know, my brother really cares about you.” That brought her attention straight to me “I think you should tell him JUST how much he means to you…”
“It’s not that simple Rach… but you’ll find out why soon enough…. Thanks for cheering me up, and I’m sorry for what happened between us when we were kids, the truth is I really liked you… it’s just..”
“Don’t worry, I know how Diana came be…. Trust me.” I still shivered whenever I thought about what she and her ‘boyfriend’ almost did to me.
“That means a lot Rach and your right, I need to let Kris now how much I care about him.”
“What are friends for right?”
“Friends? You mean it?”
I had been wrong for so long, I HAD needed friends growing up…. I had one growing up…. And it took me this long to realise it…. And I promise not to be so stupid again, once Oliver is freed I am going to live life to the full, for my aunt, for my mother, for me.
“Yeah were friends, now go talk to Kris will ya? He needs a girlfriend.”
Megan’s POV
I didn’t care that my mother was watching, or even my stuck up sister, all I knew was how much I had connected with Kris, and how much I loved him. As I approached he did that adorable smile of his and asked if I was OK before he could say anything else I just leaned in and kissed him! Did I really just do that?
“I’m so… so so sorry for that Kris, I don’t know why I-“
Then he just smiled, I loved it when he smiled, he hadn’t done it in a long time, since his sister went missing. He looked straight into my eyes, and I thought I would melt.
Suddenly he picked me up and held me close to his warm, soft body.
“I love you Megan Cole, why would I mind if you kissed me?”
I thought I had died and gone to heaven, Kris loves me! It kept screaming in my head, again and again and again.
“Megs, I really care about you, more then I have ever cared about anyone, you and me just connect on so many things and that stupid report we had to do was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you.”
Then he leaned over and kissed me. HE KISSED ME! Not only that but it wasn’t a quick unmeaning kiss, it was a kiss filled with love… I could tell that right now my mother was getting ready to hit me and do worse to Kris, she would never let me be free.
Luckily my dad was the best person in the world, and stepped between us, he smiled at me, realising how important Kris is to me, and told my mother to sit down and let me grow up, I love my dad.
After all of that drama my concentration returned to me…. And I knew this could never happen…. Me and Kris could never be together, we are from 2 different words…. “We can’t do this Kris.” And I turned to walk away from him…
Rachel’s POV
I don’t know why, but suddenly Megan had let my brother go, she stepped out of his embrace and told him ‘We can’t do this.’ I felt so bad for the two of them, what could come between 2 people who were so clearly in love?
He held strongly on to her hand, “Why not?” He asked her, with needy eyes, my brother had fallen hard for her… “Is this about my mother’s publicity stunt?” That confused me, how much had I missed?
“Listen Megan, my mother can try to force me to marry as many rich heiresses as she wishes… I’m not going to, I’m not going out with that girl, as she has told the whole world, I’m already in love with someone….someone close to me, and she already has my heart under lock and key…”
“Do you mean that? You really love me? How can you say no to your mother? She’ll kick you out! She told you so…”
“I don’t care anymore Megan, I hate how my mother has been acting… and I will find somewhere else to stay if I have to… I love you.” And he kissed her forehead… “I will love you forever.”
That night was hard,,,, I was in a unfamiliar house and tomorrow I would either get Oliver back or Megan, Kris and possibly Taylor will be arrested for lying to the police… It’s going to work As long as I keep thinking it, it’s bound to work!
Megan was supposed to sleep with me, but she snuck in to bed alongside my brother…. But my brother is a gentlemen, nothing happened, I bet he volunteered to sleep above the covers just to make it feel easier between them, I was so happy for the two of them.
My heart was beating incredibly fast and we approached the station Is this really going to work? Megan held on to my shoulder and squeezed “Have faith, it’s going to work.”
“OK, you two stay here until I give the signal, OK?”
OK, this is it! I felt like I was going to be sick, but Megan held on to my tightly as Kris entered the station.
“Officer! You will never believe it! My sister is fine! She just came back! Turns out she was on holiday with a friend!”
“Mr. Miller I know you are worried about your sister, but we are doing everything we can to find her, you don’t need to-“
He stopped as he looked at me and Megan enter the station.
This was it, time to see if our story would be enough to clear Oliver’s name…
“Miss Morgan?”
“Yes, it’s me.” I managed to say barely above a whisper.
“I know, Megan was offered a trip to Paris for her studies and she invited me, but there was hardly any time and I tried to call my mother but she wasn’t in, and the connection was bad over there.”
“Is this true young lady?”
She looked really nervous, I imagine she felt bad lying to the police, I had, but when she responded I trusted her with my life…
“Yeah it’s true, I know we should have waited to get permission… but she’s 16 and I knew it was important to our studies…”
“You know how crazy us teens can get, right?”
“We are both really sorry for all the confusion… but Oliver did nothing to me, he had no idea we had left, the truth is I left to get away from this place, I fell out with people who I cared about… but it’s time for me to make up for it…. Please let him out!”
Oliver’s POV
All I could hear was loud voices… I wasn’t really paying attention at first… then I heard her voice. Had she come back for me? What was she doing? She could get in serious trouble for this.
Megan Cole? What was she doing here?
“OK, son, time for you to go.”
“Your letting me go?”
“Of course he’s letting you go, you’ve done nothing wrong!” She did that thing where her eyes shimmered that I loved so much… she came back for me. She risked her freedom as well as her friends for me!
I really was free, I was so happy, but not because of that. Because Rachel was safe and we were talking again!
Rachel’s POV
That was the best hug of my life, knowing that Oliver was friends with me again and not going to prison for me, I felt so happy, like everything was finally right again! But of course I would have to do something with the Oliver disliking Taylor thing…. That could be difficult…
Kris then walked in gave Oliver a punch on the shoulder and held on to Megan’s hands. “You did good babe.”
“Megan and Kris are together?” I nodded. “Cute.” Oliver was such a nice caring guy, I always felt so happy when I was around him.
I couldn’t help but let out a little laugh, but it didn’t quite sound right, everything was perfect, wasn’t it?
“You OK Rach?” Of course he was concerned, I’d grown used to that.
Suddenly I pulled him in closer to me again, but this time it was different. More intimate, was I falling for him? It felt so good to wrap my arms around him, having my head on his shoulder…. OMG I AM FALLING FOR HIM!
He laughed as I quickly pulled away…. “You OK?” I just smiled and looked away….
Wasting no time and wanting to get out of there ASAP we all filled into Megan’s car and began to drive away… but where was we going?
I didn’t care… I wasn’t paying attention…. I knew I had feelings for Taylor….. I’d told myself over and over in my head that I shouldn’t I’ve known him for 2 weeks! But I loved him. And now I find out I’m starting to fall for Oliver.. my best friend? Will I ever have a normal life?
